Teaching and response guide
- Begin with: What question could an explanation based on this text answer?
- Connect the response to: Plan an introduction, a paragraph explaining the benefit, a paragraph explaining a limit and a conclusion.
- Ask students to apply the idea: Write a 2–3 paragraph explanation answering your question. Use two source details, explain their relevance and end with a qualified conclusion.
Watch for: Giving a label or broad claim without explaining the material detail, language meaning or evidence limit that supports it.
Check the answer criteria for each task. A supported explanation may have more than one acceptable response. These activities offer evidence to discuss; completing a sheet alone does not establish mastery.
