Learning goals

  • Interpret amplitude, midline and period.
  • Evaluate a trigonometric rule and solve selected level equations.
  • Sketch a cycle and explain changes and model extensions.

Before you begin

Use radians, unit-circle cosine values and function graphs.

Age and grade do not measure readiness. Adjust reading or adult support to preserve the intended learning goal.

Follow the sequence

Teaching and response guide

  1. Begin with: State the midline and its unit.
  2. Connect the response to: Find the maximum and minimum heights.
  3. Ask students to apply the idea: Sketch one cycle using the five table points. Label axes, the midline and the period.

Watch for: Amplitude is half the full height range; a domain extension requires an explicit assumption.

Check the answer criteria for each task. A supported explanation may have more than one acceptable response. These activities offer evidence to discuss; completing a sheet alone does not establish mastery.
