Teaching and response guide
- Begin with: Read the material aloud. Copy big, then circle it in the material. Word bank: big, glad, fast.
- Connect the response to: Which word has the opposite meaning of big?
- Ask students to apply the idea: Use the clues to fill the crossword. Write one letter per box. Word bank: big, glad, fast. 1 Across: large (3 letters). 2 Down: happy (4 letters). 3 Across: quick (4 letters).
Watch for: Choosing a word because it fits the space without checking its meaning in the sentence.
Check the answer criteria for each task. A supported explanation may have more than one acceptable response. These activities offer evidence to discuss; completing a sheet alone does not establish mastery.
