Build a Four-Beat Measure: Grade 3 printable practice with five tasks, an answer key, and teacher guidance. Print on US Letter or A4, or save as PDF from the print window.
Teaching and response guide
- How many beats are two quarter notes and one half note altogether?
- How many beats does a pair of eighth notes take together in this activity?
- A student says a rest counts as zero beats because it is silent. Explain the mistake.
Watch for: Silence still takes time. This quarter rest lasts one beat and counts toward the measure total.
Check the answer criteria for each task. A supported explanation may have more than one acceptable response. These activities offer evidence to discuss; completing a sheet alone does not establish mastery.
