Teaching and response guide
- Begin with: Does 1 + 1 + 2 fill one four-beat measure?
- Connect the response to: A measure has durations 1/2, 1/2 and 2. How many beats remain?
- Ask students to apply the idea: Why does the number of notes alone not tell the number of beats?
Watch for: Accepting an answer without checking whether it uses the material and satisfies the requested relationship or criteria.
Check the answer criteria for each task. A supported explanation may have more than one acceptable response. These activities offer evidence to discuss; completing a sheet alone does not establish mastery.
