Before you begin:

Teaching steps:
1. Begin with: Identify the two independent ideas in the first sentence.
2. Connect the response to: Repair the first sentence without changing its main ideas.
3. Ask students to apply the idea: Repair We walked carefully, the bridge was slippery.

Watch for: Accepting an answer without checking whether it uses the material and satisfies the requested relationship or criteria.
